Pick Up and Play is an exciting new programme launched in 2017 by Music Generation Louth. Over the course of the term, participants had been performing popular songs and composing their own music. Last week saw the course come to end with two events taking place in Drogheda and Dundalk

On Monday groups from the Pick Up and Play sessions and MGL’s Pathway Orchestra took to the stage of the Droichead Arts Centre to record performance videos of material they have been working on throughout the term.

Wednesday night saw the culmination of the Pick Up and Play sessions with a concert showcase in the Mac Anna Theatre in the Dundalk Institute of Technology. Groups from Ardee, Dundalk and Drogheda came together to make their on-stage debut, performing a selection of pieces they had been working on throughout the term. The bands, ranging from 4th class primary to 5th year secondary level, were greeted with rapturous applause and cheers from the appreciative audience, who clapped and sang along as each group delivered their set of pop and rock music, with some debuting their own compositions. Performances by the MGL Harp Ensemble and MGL Pathway Orchestra capped off a wonderful and diverse night of music. Congratulations to all the performers!
